Championing Bilingualism at Pearson

Celebrate Official Languages Day and discover how small bilingual actions make a big impact in creating a more welcoming passenger experience at Pearson.

At Toronto Pearson, every “Bonjour” and “Hello” helps to create a welcoming passenger experience. September 11, 2025 marks Official Languages Day, a time to celebrate Canada’s rich linguistic heritage and recognize the incredible role our frontline teams play in bringing French and English to life every day.

Why Bilingualism Matters

Bilingualism isn’t just a policy at Pearson—it’s a commitment to creating an inclusive, welcoming journey for millions of passengers. Whether someone is arriving for the first time, connecting between flights, or heading home, being able to interact in their preferred language can make their travel experience smoother, friendlier and more personal.

Did you know? Under the Official Languages Act, Pearson—like all comparable airports across Canada—is required to have an Official Languages Plan.  This plan sets a clear path to ensuring English and French are valued equally across the airport, from signage and announcements to customer service interactions.

Small Actions, Big Impact

For passengers, bilingual service creates confidence and comfort. For us as employees, it’s about showing care in every interaction. Even if you’re not fluent in French, small efforts—like starting a greeting with “Hello/Bonjour” or connecting a passenger with a French-speaking colleague—help demonstrate our commitment.

French made simple: Phrases you can use today:

Bonjour! Bienvenue à Toronto Pearson!

Hello! Welcome to Toronto Pearson!

Puis-je vous aider?

Can I help you?

Merci et bon voyage!

Thank you and have a great trip!

Bringing Bilingualism to Life

Pearson’s frontline employees have always been the champions of this effort. Whether at check-in counters, information booths or security lines, you bring the Official Languages Plan to life through daily interactions. By embedding bilingualism into our operations, Pearson is leading the way in building a more inclusive airport experience for all.

Whether it’s Official Languages Day or a regular day of the week, let’s take pride in this leadership and celebrate the role you play in making bilingualism a reality at Pearson. Together, we’re not just following a plan—we’re building an airport that welcomes the world in both official languages.
